This trip to historic Council Grove, KS for an annual Pow-Wow is a great photographic opportunity. The entire city is involved in the festivities and there are activities for everyone to enjoy.
Before we head up to Council Grove we'll have breakfast in Wichita and head north to the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge where we'll enjoy a Photography Tour among the 200 head of bison and 50 elk.
The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge lies on piece of preserved natural prairie, with rolling hills, creeks, springs, beautiful wildflowers and prairie grasses. All of this was made possible by the dream of John Gault Maxwell who sought to preserve a piece of the Kansas Prairie as it was in the 1800's, prior to settlement.
Viewing buffalo and elk at Maxwell is like no other place and you'll have to opportunity to capture incredible up close and personal photos of these magnificent beast.
We will have lunch before will continue on to Council Grove.
All of this will get you ready for the Dulcimers and Indian Flute Music before dinner at the Hays House. After dinner we'll head over to the Kaw Mission grounds for the Pow Wow starting at 6:30. The dancers are spectacular and it's an enjoyable, and photographic, event.
This full day trip is designed to be a great Kansas Getaway that takes you back in time to the days when Newly arriving settlers, Native Indians, natural Prairie and buffalo shared the Great American Plains. You'll have opportunities to enjoy the great entertainment and capture photos to preserve this time in the memories of you and your family.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and transportation are all included in the cost of this trip as well as your admission to the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge. The schedule is not cast in stone; we will be out as long as everyone wants to stay out there (or until we simply need to get back to Wichita for those who have to get back to work, kids, dogs, etc.).
